We woke this morning to the news that a large Ash tree had split, and half was lying across the driveway. Luckily it had fallen within our boundary, and not across Bear Hill. With lots of willing help from all the Bickford's chaps we cleared the driveway easily, and got Devon, a local tree surgeon, to take down the rest. He'd been up since 2 a.m. and rushed off from us to deal with other fallen trees. Within hours the pile of fire wood was being picked up by passers-by.
Meanwhile, work on the house has restarted in earnest: Chris and Rich are laying ground drains around the front, Nigel has the plumbing well in hand (the plant room is getting full of fancy pumps, pipes and valves and he is about ready to start the boiler) and walls are being plastered left, right and centre.
