To help drain any water running off the sloping ground, before it gets to the patio area, Chris and Pete installed a French drain - a perforated plastic drain pipe surrounded by gravel, that will be covered with topsoil. They had a neat way of spreading the gravel along the trench: Pete hacked a hole in the bottom of a bag of gravel, and the gravel poured out while Chris reversed along the trench. Hey presto!
Alice's brick path and steps are nearly finished.
And foundations for the patio area are coming next.
