The new house build blog

Today (14 January 2017) I decided to set up a blog, to report progress on our new house. This first post is a brief catch up covering the last 2 years. 1 October 2014 – This is the day I first contacted George Batterham of Batterham Matthews Design, who quickly became our chosen architect. I had found his company by tracking down the architects of this spectacular house – Cranham Lodge in the Cotswolds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp6KpgRKDLE George soon came up with a set of sketches – some more whacky than others, but we rather liked the idea of curves. We quite quickly settled on the basic design – with a curved outline with about half of the footprint single storey half two-storey. A photographic tour

Stephanie went wild with her camera today. Here is a selection of her photos, starting in the main living area, which is nearly finished. I've been preparing the under-floor ventilation for the woodstove and the glass and oak screen has been installed. The kitchen is ready for the worktops Now walk along the corridor... and past the washroom... stop to admire the staircase... and into the study. Back into Joe's bedroom - his ensuite is all finished... and gaze out of his bedoom window! Now head upstairs, where last section of oak floor has been laid and into our bedroom with views of the churchyard. Our walk in wardroom is finished... and Mike has made a neat box around the under-floor heating manifold. Doors are getting their handles, one by one. And our en-suite is also finished. Celebrating

We have begun to move furniture in, and have had our first cup of tea (and champagne, and birthday cake) to celebrate.
