Home grown beams

We realised when Carpenter Oak delivered the oak beams that we had never specified who was going to make two additional curved beams to support the small section of roof above the passageway along the back of the house. This seems like a good excuse for me to join in and make a one little bit of the house. It was also a good excuse to invest in a powerful circular saw, and a new belt sander.
Starting with six 8x2 inch planks of softwood, and some careful measurement of curves (25 metre radius!) I then cut each plank into the right shape,
applied lots of glue and screwed them together in two sets of three
and with a fair deal of planing down, then sanding, voila!
I reckon that Carpenter Oak would be proud of me. The beams are resting on a stack of the oak beams that will eventually form part of the porch, and the veranda. Bickford Builders will put these up, when convenient, as they would have been in the way if put up along with the rest of the frame.
