Sand blasting

After a puzzling 300% increase for the cost of cleaning the oak by a local company that we had been in touch with for several months, we switched at the last minute to a Bristol-based company called Blastmaster. They turned up at 8am, but discovered they couldn't get their van and compressor up the slope. Luckily the ever-versatile Manitou sorted them out, and they were soon underway.

They use grit that is apparently recycled from some form of furnace ash, and a incredibly powerfully air compressor. One chap worked in a "deep sea diving suit", complete with its own air supply, the other one kept the supply of grit coming through the system.
The blasting was quick, but made short work of any loose insulation. It was also too noisy for Mike!
It brings out the grain nicely - the left post hasn't been cleaned, the right one has.
